Electric Dipole Simulation

The simulation shows the Y-Z plane of electric dipole radiation initially for charges of 0.01C, at a separation of 10mm and a frequency of 1MHz. Clicking within the display will show the field strength at that point in V/m, as well as the corrdinates. The charges are not shown to scale and the field lines are scaled to the display pane.

Use the simulation to investigate the following:

• Slowly change the width of the dipole. How does this relate to time retarded potentials?
• Pause the simulation at the extremes of the oscillation and when charges overlap. Observe the resultant fields.
• Note the lact of field along the z axis. How would this field appear in three dimensions?
